What Dr. DeWald Loves Most About Being A Dentist

WE RECENTLY ASKED DR. DEWALD a few questions about his career. Here are his answers – thought you’d find them interesting!

How old were you, and what made you decide you wanted to become a dentist?

“Well, I can go back to about 17 years old when I just graduated High School. That was when I knew I wanted to be a dentist. I have a medical background…both of my parents were nurses. My mother worked for a private practice, and the physician that she worked for would always show me new and exciting things in the medical field. I loved technical and intricate things and working with my hands as well as fixing problems that would arise. I knew that the medical field was where I was headed but I also knew that physician was not what I wanted to do, so I made the decision to be a dentist and I have never regretted my decision!”

Where did you attend school and how long have you been practicing?

“I attended school at Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and I have been practicing dentistry for 41 going on 42 years now.”

What advice would you give to a young person considering a career in Dentistry?

“I think I would tell any young person trying to start a career in dentistry that it’s a lot of hard work. It’s important to know that dentistry isn’t a piece of cake, it’s a very hard field to be in. It took a lot of hard work and studying to get to where I am today in my dental career. It’s a very rewarding profession and I love it but it’s a lot of hard work before you start your career and even after you’ve begun.”

What is one thing you find most satisfying about being a dentist?

“The thing I love most about being a dentist is the patients and all the people I get to meet through my chosen career. I love to see all the different people that come in and out of my clinic and their different stories and backgrounds. I also love helping the people and being there for them. It makes for a very rewarding day and life for me.”

We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know Dr. DeWald better! And, as always, THANKS for being our valued patients and friends!
