National Children’s Dental Health Month!

CLARKSVILLE DENTAL CENTER IS SO THANKFUL FOR ALL OF OUR CHILD PATIENTS! February is dedicated to all of the children CDC serves. February is National Children’s Dental Health Month.

It Is Never Too Early To Start Taking Care Of Your Little One’s Teeth

During this month Clarksville Dental Center will be paying extra special attention to all of our child patients. Parents need to make sure their child’s dental health is great, because it affects their child’s overall health.

Here is some information about children’s dental health. In fact, proper oral health care should start well before your baby’s first teeth even erupt.

  • Say No To Bottles In Bed: Never put your baby to sleep with a bottle or sippy cup filled with milk, formula, fruit juice, or other sweet liquid. The sugar in these beverages can cause cavities in your baby’s teeth, leading to “baby bottle tooth decay.”
  • Be Sure Your Baby Drinks Fluoridated Water: By the time your baby is 6 months old, he or she will require some fluoride for healthy teeth.
  • Clean Your Baby’s Gums: Twice a day, gently wipe your baby’s gums with a wet, clean, soft cloth.
  • Brush New Teeth Once the first teeth come in, you can clean them using a soft flexible children’s toothbrush and water.
  • See A Dentist!

You Can Promote Your Child’s Oral Health At Home

It is simple! Here are some easy steps to follow!

Step #1:

Make sure your child brushes his or her teeth for two minutes twice a day.

Step #2:

Start flossing between your child’s teeth as soon as he or she has two teeth that touch each other.

Step #3:

Monitor excessive sucking of pacifiers and fingers, both of which are habits that can lead to future misalignment of teeth.

Step #4:

Give your child fluoridated water, whether its bottled or from the tap.

Step #5:

Encourage your child to brush and floss his or her own teeth when he or she is old enough, but always monitor the child’s technique and thoroughness.

Step #6:

Lead by example. Brushing and flossing your teeth with your child will teach him or her to understand the importance of good oral hygiene.

We hope these tips help you out!
