Governor Haslam Makes Dental Board Appointments

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam recently made appointments to the Tennessee Board of Dentistry for the term April 2014-March 2017. Dr. Ernest DeWald, a general denstist from Clarksville was appointed as the new member from Middle Tennessee, replacing Dr. James Smith who was not eligible for reappointment. Dr. DeWald completed his pre-dental education at St. Johns University and earned his D.D.S. from Georgetown University in 1972. Dr. DeWald’s professional memberships are many, including ADA, TDA, AGD, American College of Dentists, American Academy of Forensic Sciences, Society of Forensic Odontology, and Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. DeWald has served in all elected offices of the Eighth District Dental Society, including as president in 2001, and was awarded the TDA’s Fellowship Award in 2003. Dr. DeWald has served the dental needs of Clarksville residents for more than twenty years, however his service to dentistry extends far beyond Montgomery County. With forensic dentistry as his main field of interest, Dr. DeWald serves as the Chief Dental Officer, Post Moretm Section, Disaster Mortuary Operations Response Team #4 (DMORT). He was deployed with DMORT-4 in response to disasters in Princeville, North Carolina (October 1999), World Trade Center, New York (2001), and Hurrican Katrina, Gulfport, Mississippi (September 2005). Dr. DeWald and his wife, Joan, reside in Clarksville.”

This article was taken from the Tennessee Dental Association News issue for the month of May. We wanted to share with all of our patients this wonderful news for Dr. DeWald and share a little bit about him as well. We are so proud of Dr. DeWald and all of his many accomplishments!
